Where's the most obscure city or country you've been to?

Post by Rowntree »

I'm currently on a fortnight work-based secondment to Tashkent, Uzbekistan. I'm thoroughly enjoying it, but I do pinch myself occasionally because it's somewhere I never ever thought I'd be. it's an intriguing mixture of history and modern, much like most of the former Soviet states. The denomination of the money is mental. Birds mostly not great. Boiling hot.

Yeah, waiting for a plane I saw a man ploughing a field with a buffalo something you don't see at Heathrow.

Not that obscure considering the number of people told to go there.

Shkoder, Albania.

Was a fun city. Helped being shown around by a local maybe, but folk were very friendly. Going from Montenegro to Albania was a bit like crossing from eastern Europe in to the middle east - folk selling odd shoes at roundabouts ; roads were in some state and driving looked mental. I was a bit surprised at the culture shock to an extent, it was quite different to the rest of Ex-Yugoslavia. Then again it was one of the most cut off states in Europe for centuries.

Folk were nice. Very nice, and welcoming.

Killawog, NY. It really exists and is about half an hour from where I live.
If I could get lucky I'd secede from the states
I'd buy the country at an incredible rate
