I have mixed feelings about this. It's not a bad film in isolation, but as has been repeated countless times Cruise was a terrible choice for the role. And as for the sequel, well, they shouldn't have bothered.

Not as depicted in the trailer, it was a lot darker and weirder than it made out. Despite the fact I quite enjoyed it, I wouldn't really rush to recommend it.

A bridge too far (1977).
A great film, but the stellar cast struggled to get enough scene time. Some character stories (particularly the one played by james caan) just came and went.
