Test cricket returns to England today- first of five Tests v India.

I know that six ball overs and teams with actual tradition are so last year but hopefully someone will turn up to watch.

England's top order looks woeful.

The batting looks rotten and the main bowling attack is aging/ crocked.

Exciting times ahead.

Looks like we will be saved by the rain. Need a clear out of the inept and pathetic batters now rather than wait until the end of the series. Also Root is a top batsman, he's a shite skipper imo.

Also, they left both Woakes and Archer out of the squad but they appear to be now fit.

Archer is out for the year and Woakes is still injured

Crawley and Lawrence need to be binned immediately and it’s painful watching Broad still pretend to be a test cricketer. No wickets in 6 of his last 9 innings and his batting went to shit 7 years ago

Hamed and Pope to come in to stiffen up the batting, and Mark Wood should be given a couple of tests

Archer has an injured elbow and won't be fit for the Ashes.
Agree with you re Root – not convinced by his captaincy; was never convinced by Cook, either.
Not sure about having a mass clearout – that would be a hark back to the 90s where we chopped and changed so much, it really harmed the Test team.
But it's true that our top order is not right.

Heh, good old Holden.
He has off days, definitely, but he's too good to drop. A phenomenal bowler.

The problem is- who is settled enough in the team to be captain? All the top six bar Root have huge doubts over them, Anderson is nearly 40, Broad is 35- neither seem captaincy material anyway. Do you give it to Stokes? The natural successor was Eoin Morgan but he doesn't play red ball cricket.

The Aussies will be quivering in their boots at the thought of his 80mph pies coming their way this winter.

Very true.
Stokes is one option; too late for Anderson and Broad.

Huge blow. God send more like. Although his lined up replacement is probably even worse. Sad times for English cricket. Without Root we really are a shambles of a batting side, and the bowling is only marginally better. If Root fails at Lords we will be fucked unless they find some bottle from somewhere..

I think you're confusing "bottle" with "cricketing ability".
