Old Kent Road near where Henry Cooper used to train in the Thomas A Becket is a real tough area. You wouldn't want to be loitering round there for long.

It's fine in the day, Zambo. never been there at night, though.

My eldest went out with a bloke who lived round there, he was as hard as nails, but he wouldn't be around those roads on his jack at night.

Very harmless place - we used to call it soft boy valley , but I can see why you'd be scared there.

But I have heard stories that it does have certain no-go areas.

Town centres and high streets with bars and clubs are full of pissed-up blokes in the early hours and fights are inevitable - it's been that way for my entire lifetime.

I don't think that's the same as an area being "no go". In any case no one goes there at those hours except pissheads.

Just in my area:

Alum Rock, Small Heath and Warterlinks.

Was kinda soul, reggae night's and completely changed.

All of those venues are now Islamic 'this', or 'Islamic that' schools or refuge homes or places for advice.

I've lived in the past in areas that get talked about as if they're no go areas - eg council estates and certain parts of cities. In my experience the people who go on about how scary they are have never even been there.

Funnily enough I've done 2 three week jobs in Belfast, heard all the scare stories, did the taxi tour of the troubles ( loved it, never been interested but what place), spent 3 weeks on the piss and all I had was a great laugh, not saying there's no trouble I just think you have to look for it, who can tell?

A no go area can also signify that people would not reside there as they would feel outnumbered ,threatened and pressurised.
That being the case then ,you have specific populated areas of one ethnic people and so on and so on.
