If the goal, or ideal, whatever, of socialism is to create fairness, why hasn't Corbyn offered to distribute his private assets among the population?
Having material gain and giving your loved ones the best opportunities in life isnt anathema to socialism.
I think you'll find it is. Socialism, which creates forced equality, doesn't give people the best opportunities in life. Everyone is equal, thus equally poor, albeit a small elite responsible for pulling the strings. Remember what Orwell said, "all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others."
Socialism - the seeds of which were responsible for tens of millions of deaths, from China, to the Soviet Union, to Cambodia - will never work effectively.
I think you'll find that socialism means whatever you want it to mean.

Socialism is compatible with democracy and liberty. It doesn't create forced equality, thats communism, which does so through authoritarian states.

Alrighty then. Unfortunately, socialism eventually leads to communism. It might take several years or twenty, but a ruthlessly ambitious individual will take control, either by false promises or coercion, then equality - the comradeship, so to speak - is lost.
Human evolution has made sure that we compete with one another. Do you think this instinct, as well as our penchant for greed, violence and suffering, disappears when a country embraces socialism? Not at all. The Stalins and Hitlers of this world will always be waiting in the wings.
